Sakarya
University, Department of Social Work has been training social workers and
researchers at undergraduate and graduate levels since 2006. The target group
of social work discipline consists of disadvantaged groups in society such as
women, children, homeless people, seniors, disabled people, addicted people,
among others. Social work provides planned interventions and services to these
groups and aims to solve social problems at all levels of society.
Sakarya
University Department of Social Work trains qualified social workers working
with disadvantaged groups. There are currently six faculty members and five
research assistants in the department. The department has graduated
approximately 550 undergraduate and 80 graduate students, most of whom work as
social workers in the public and private sector, particularly the Ministry of
Family, Labour and Social Work.
In
addition, the academics in Department has contributed to innovative,
sustainable and integrative interventions by communicating with national and
international stakeholders. The academics have also participated in many
national and international projects on disadvantaged groups, particularly
women, children, addicted people, convicts, as coordinator or partner. Many
national and international projects on social responsibility, social problems,
social policies and disadvantaged groups under the coordinatorship of Prof. Dr.
Yusuf Genç. Prof. Dr. Genç has prepared several academic studies on subjects
such as work life, employment, integration, social inclusion, participation in
social life, family problems, addiction, violence and crime.
