Project Partners Meet at the 1st Online Meeting

The second internationally attended meeting of the "Homecoming of People Living in the Street by Rehabilitation and Mediation Project", which was contributed by eight partners from four different countries, was held online due to the extraordinary conditions experienced due to the coronavirus pandemic.

All partners attended the meeting, which started with the greeting and opening speech of Associate Professor Yusuf GENÇ on 18.05.2020 through the SKYPE program. The activities implemented until the date of the meeting and the progress of the process were evaluated and the most ideal solutions for the homeless to return home were discussed. In the speeches about the events that caused the problem of homelessness in different countries and the strategies to combat homelessness, it was emphasized that the main causes of homelessness are unemployment, alcohol and drug use, family problems, divorce and poverty. While a consensus was reached on taking concrete steps to solve all these problem areas, it was mentioned that the content of the training modules to be developed for homeless individuals, homeless families and professional staff working with homeless people within the scope of the project will have a curriculum that covers the problem areas mentioned.

The survey study to be carried out in four countries was one of the important topics of the meeting. At the meeting, where the questions and contents of the questionnaires to be developed for the homeless and homeless families were discussed, it was decided to apply a questionnaire to a total of 100 homeless and 300 homeless families. Thus, the foundations of one of the most comprehensive researches on the problem of homelessness in the world were laid.

Stating that the problems of the homeless have become much deeper in the world struggling with the pandemic, Doctor Genc highlighted that the importance of the project has increased many times. He concluded the meeting by adding that he was confident that all project partners would fulfill their responsibilities with devotion in the eyes of homeless individuals.
